Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma is one of the very first titles launching on Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, 2025, and we couldn’t be more excited! We know there are a lot of questions about how the game works across both consoles, so we’ve put together this FAQ to help clear things up.

If you still have questions, feel free to reach out on our X channel or via our contact form.

What’s new for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition?

The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma has been enhanced to take full advantage of the new console’s increased power.

You can expect:

  • Higher resolution visuals for a crisper, more immersive world,
  • Faster frame rates for smoother gameplay,
  • Support for the Joy-Con 2 controllers’ new mouse functionality, which brings greater precision and flexibility to village-building.
If I pre-ordered the Nintendo Switch™ version, will it work on Nintendo Switch™ 2?

Yes! Nintendo Switch 2 can play compatible Nintendo Switch games. Simply insert your game card or download the game, and you’ll be ready to embark on your adventure in Azuma.

To unlock features exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2—such as higher resolution graphics and mouse support—you’ll need to purchase the optional Upgrade Pack.

What is the Upgrade Pack?

The Upgrade Pack lets you upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of the game. It enables console-specific enhancements and ensures your save data carries over between versions.

It’s included on the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game card and available separately from the Nintendo eShop if you own the Nintendo Switch version.

If you own the Nintendo Switch version, you can obtain an upgrade pass separately from the Nintendo eShop.

How much does the Upgrade Pack cost?

The Upgrade Pack will be priced at €10 / £10 / A$15 and will be available on launch day. Please check the Nintendo eShop for exact pricing for your region.

What is the physical "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition"?

The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is a red 64GB game card that includes, in full, the Nintendo Switch game and the Upgrade Pack.

There’s no need to download the full game: simply insert the card into either a Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 console, and the correct version will launch automatically.

Like most modern titles, there may be small updates or patches available at launch to provide minor fixes and improvements, but rest assured: the complete game is on the game card, ready to play from day one.

Will there be a physical Limited Edition for Nintendo Switch 2?

Unfortunately not. The physical Limited Edition includes the Nintendo Switch version only.

You can still play it on Nintendo Switch 2, and you can purchase the Upgrade Pack separately to play the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition features such as higher resolution graphics and mouse support.

All downloadable content included in the Limited Edition is compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.

Why isn’t there a physical Nintendo Switch 2 Limited Edition?

Producing physical items and collectables takes time for manufacturing and safety testing. Unfortunately, it wasn’t possible to finalise everything in time for the launch of Nintendo Switch 2.

The good news? The game included in the Limited Edition is compatible with Nintendo Switch 2, and you can access all enhanced features with the Upgrade Pack.

Can I buy the Limited Edition extras separately in Europe?

Due to complex safety and labelling regulations across different European countries, the Limited Edition extras will only be available when purchased together with the game from participating retailers.

We hope to see you in Azuma on June 5, 2025!
